Prices — every category, every season, in writing
One day rate per car class and season. On this website every rate already includes our BASIC + SCDW cover: third-party liability and personal accident insurance, the Theft Waiver, and collision damage cover with a €1,000 excess (the most you pay for covered collision damage; €3,000 with BASIC alone). Unlimited mileage is included too; the road-use charge is shown next to each rate and added as its own line in your quote. Tire and Windshield Protection (which gives you PLUS), MAX, Sand and Ash Protection and Roadside Assistance Protection are optional. The pickup date sets the season, and your exact quote is confirmed before you commit.

Every car class has its own rate, set by its ACRISS code — the international car-class code on your booking. The month of pickup sets the season for the whole rental. You get the model shown or a similar car of the same class (the usual Icelandic "or similar" practice).
Prices shown are for prepaid, non-refundable bookings. Your quote also shows a refundable booking (full refund up to 48 hours before pickup, +4%) and paying on arrival (+8%). The percentages apply to the rental, cover and extras, not to the road-use charge.
Longer rentals cost less per day
The longer-rental discount is published, not negotiated. It applies to the day rate; the road-use charge (the official daily rate plus our processing charge) is not discounted.
- 7 days or more: 5% off the day rate
- 14 days or more: 7% off the day rate
- 21 days or more: 10% off the day rate
Example: a 10-day rental takes the 7-day rate; a 21-day rental takes the 21-day rate for all 21 days. The maximum rental is 30 days.
Road-use charge (kílómetragjald)
Iceland charges a kilometer fee on every vehicle; for rentals of up to 30 days we pay it at the official rental-car daily rate. Our road-use charge is €10.50 per started rental day: the official daily rate (ISK 1,390 in 2026), passed on without markup or VAT, plus our processing charge, including VAT. It is not in the day rates above: it is shown next to them and added as its own line in your quote. If a rental nevertheless runs past 30 days, the official fee for the whole rental is charged per kilometer driven instead (ISK 6.95/km in 2026), plus the processing charge per day; a canceled or uncollected booking gets it back. Road tolls (the Vaðlaheiðargöng tunnel and the Hornafjarðarfljót bridge), parking and national-park fees are paid by you directly.
Cover — what is in the price and what is optional
BASIC + SCDW — included in every price
BASIC is third-party liability and personal accident insurance (both required by law), the Theft Waiver and collision damage cover (CDW). Super CDW (SCDW) lowers your excess — the most you pay for covered collision damage — to €1,000 per incident. CDW, SCDW and the Theft Waiver are Ring Road Cars' own cover, not insurance policies. You can decline CDW at the same price; you are then liable for damage up to the value of the car. Some damage is not covered with any cover option; the cover page lists it.
PLUS and MAX — optional upgrades
Add Tire and Windshield Protection for +€20 per day and you have PLUS: your excess stays the same, and a tire damaged on its own, or a front windshield damaged by gravel from another vehicle, is replaced at no cost for the part. PLUS is €25 a day on our Price List because that price also includes Super CDW, which every price on this site already has. MAX, for +€40 per day, takes your excess to zero, includes Tire and Windshield Protection and Sand and Ash Protection, and covers wheels and tires too. Sand and Ash Protection is also available on its own (+€15 per day), and Roadside Assistance Protection costs +€10 per day. You only get these if you choose them; nothing is pre-selected. Some damage stays excluded with every cover option (water, the undercarriage, off-road driving, wrong fuel).
