Common questions about this car

What makes Highland 4×4 different from 4×4 Adventure?

Size and capability. Highland 4×4 vehicles — like the Toyota Land Cruiser — are bigger, with more ground clearance, built for the toughest F-roads, interior tracks and deep winter. 4×4 Adventure covers gravel and open, marked F-roads; Highland 4×4 is the class for the hardest highland routes.

Can I cross rivers in a Highland 4×4?

No. River and water crossings are excluded on every vehicle and every cover level at Ring Road Cars — including this one. If water covers the road, stop and turn back.

How old do I need to be to rent a Highland 4×4?

At least 26, with a full licence held for at least one year. A standard category B licence is all you need — no special permit.

Is a Highland 4×4 good for winter driving?

Yes — it is our most capable winter class: four-wheel drive, the most ground clearance in the fleet, and winter tyres in season. For remote winter routes or the Westfjords in deep winter, this is the class we point to.

When do F-roads open for Highland 4×4 trips?

F-roads usually open in late June, once the highland snow has melted enough — some not until July. Vegagerðin posts daily status on road.is; check it before you set out, whatever the calendar says.
