Common questions about this car
Can I drive F-roads (highland tracks) in a 4×4?
Yes — F-roads are permitted for 4×4 vehicles in summer, typically from late June when the highland roads open. Always check road.is / Vegagerðin for the current opening status before heading into the highlands; conditions change quickly.
Can I cross rivers or drive through water in a 4×4?
No. With Ring Road Cars, river and water crossings are excluded under our cover rules. If you encounter water across a road, stop and turn back.
Is the 4×4 the right choice for winter driving in Iceland?
Yes. The 4×4 category offers the highest ground clearance and four-wheel drive — the best choice for harsh winter conditions, remote routes, and the Westfjords in season. Winter tyres are included as standard.
When do F-roads typically open in Iceland?
F-roads are usually opened in late June, once the snow has melted sufficiently. The exact date varies each year; Vegagerðin publishes daily road status at road.is. Some F-roads open as late as July.
Is the road-use charge shown in the 4×4 price?
Yes. The road-use charge is shown up front for every vehicle class, including the 4×4. The estimate is ISK 1,550 per started day, split into official fee and processing estimate.
