What a week of car rental in Iceland really costs

Short answer
A 7-day rental with us costs from €308 in winter and €560 in summer for an Everyday car, including BASIC + SCDW cover and the road-use charge. An AWD Comfort SUV costs from €455 in winter and €931 in summer. Longer rentals cost less per day (−5% from 7 days), and the only other costs are the extras you choose, fuel, and tolls or parking on your route.
A week's rental, cover and road-use charge included

- Longer rentals cost less per day: −5% from 7 days, −7% from 14 days and −10% from 21 days, rounded down in your favor.
- The road-use charge is Iceland's kilometer fee for rental cars: €10.50 per started day in 2026 and €12 from 1 January 2027, shown next to every price and included in every quote (the kilometer fee explained).
- Pay now or on arrival: paying now is the listed price, refundable up to 48 hours before pickup; paying on arrival costs 4% more on the rental, cover and extras.

Costs that are not ours
- Fuel: you pay for what you use — return the car full.
- Tolls and parking: the Vaðlaheiðargöng tunnel near Akureyri, and parking at some nature sites and in Reykjavík — see Tolls & parking.
- Out-of-hours pickup or return: €75 each, on request.

How much does it cost to rent a car in Iceland for a week?

What cover is included in the price?
BASIC + SCDW, so the excess for covered damage is €1,000. You can add PLUS, or MAX, which has no excess, for a daily price.
Why is the road-use charge shown separately?
It is Iceland's kilometer fee for rental cars, passed on as one daily line: €10.50 per started day in 2026 and €12 from 1 January 2027. It is shown next to every price and included in every quote total.
Is it cheaper to rent a car for longer?
Yes. The day rate drops by 5% from 7 days, 7% from 14 days and 10% from 21 days.
What costs are not included in the rental price?
Fuel, tolls and parking fees on your route, and any extras you choose. Every fee we can charge is listed on our Fees & charges page.
